The Cause of Weight Gain Might Be Lack of Self-Love
You are unique and if that is not fulfilled, then something wonderful has been lost.
Martha Graham
The overweight and obesity rates have increased dramatically in the last 30 years and are expected to continue to increase year after year after year. More than two out of three Americans are overweight. Globally, 34% of the population is overweight. The weight loss industry is a $61+ billion dollar industry and still obesity is on the rise.
The usual weight loss programs aren’t working. Huge clue: Appx. 95% of people who lose weight, put it right back on.
Though billions of dollars are spent each year to heal the obesity issue, it still persists. The reason? Weight is the SYMPTOM. NOT THE CAUSE. NOT THE ISSUE.
The usual programs for weight loss aren’t working because they are attempting to solve the problem by dealing with the symptom instead of healing the cause.
ONE OF THE DEEPER ISSUES BENEATH THE WEIGHT IS SELF-LOVE.
During World War II, babies in orphanages died even though they received enough food. Their death was the result of not being loved, held, touched, comforted, and/or stroked. As infants, to survive, we are dependent upon others to love, comfort, stroke, and hold us.
For survival, when we don’t love ourselves, we are dependent on others to show us love and to make us feel loved, lovable, and accepted.
If we don’t believe we are lovable, will we believe that anyone else would find us lovable? If someone did find us lovable, would we believe them? If they found us lovable, would we question their judgment or maybe their intent?
OVEREATING IS THE SYMPTOM.
EATING UNTIL WE ARE STUFFED IS THE SYMPTOM.
EATING TO SUPPRESS OUR EMOTIONS IS THE SYMPTOM.
EATING TO NUMB OUT IS THE SYMPTOM.
Excess Weight:
Cause – Lack of self-love and the shame that we are not lovable or good enough to be loved.
Result – Overeating, eating to suppress emotions…to suppress anger, grief, and hurt that we are depended on others to shows us love, to make us feel lovable, and that we are good enough to be loved.
