I Tapped and I’m Not Better. Why?
“I processed the issue I had and I’m not any better. Why?”
When we process and the same issue persists, it isn’t the process that didn’t work. It’s the issue we processed.
For instance, you resist change and often say, “I know I need to change but…” Is your resistance really to changing or do you lack something to move toward? You can process being stuck in the past, but the real issue might be that you have nothing to move forward to in the future. Maybe it’s about the lack of goals or not having the skills to fulfill a goal. Maybe it’s the lack of dreams and believing that this is the best it will ever be.
For instance, you feel you don’t have the courage to trust others. So, you process your lack of courage in trusting others. Trust is a skill. Trust is not about trusting someone else. It is about learning to trust ourselves. Maybe the issue isn’t about courage as it is about the skill of trust and discernment. Maybe the issue is your lack in the skill of discernment rather than the courage to trust others. Maybe the issue is learning to trust yourself.
For instance, you feel it is selfish to put yourself and your needs first. Something bad will happen to those you love if you don’t put them first. Or others might call you selfish if you take care of your needs before theirs. So, you process your selfishness. You process what others might say or think if you put yourself first. Maybe the issue isn’t about what others will think and say. Maybe the issue is you just aren’t that important to yourself. Maybe the issue is self-love, self-respect, and self-worth.
For instance, your eating is out of control. So, you process this issue but your eating remains out of control. Maybe the issue isn’t about your eating being out of control. Maybe the issue is about stress or lack of self-confidence or anger, fear, and/or apathy that results in overeating. Maybe the issue is the lack of control you feel you have in your life. Maybe eating out of control is a symptom of your life being out of balance.
If you process and the issue seems to persist, look at the issue again, but from a different perspective. Flip it around. Look at it from the opposite perspective. And, process this new perspective. It might be about the future and not the past. It might be about trusting yourself rather than others. It might be about your self respect rather than someone else’s respect of you. Maybe it’s a symptom for another issue. Flip it around.
EFT tapping, Emotional Freedom Technique, is a wonderful tool to process our issues.
