Everything Happens For a Reason?

Golden arrow and maze puzzle. Finding solution concept

Bad things do happen. How I respond to them defines my character and the quality of my life. I can choose to sit in perpetual sadness, immobilized by the gravity of my loss, or I can choose to rise from the pain and treasure the most precious gift I have – life itself.
Walter Anderson

When a child dies of cancer or a crowd is mowed down by a drunk driver, all of this happened for a reason?

This is what I believe. Stuff happens. Bad stuff happens. I don’t believe that everything happens for a reason. What I do believe is that in order to heal, in order to successfully move past bad stuff that happens to us, we have to find value from the bad stuff that happened. We have to find the silver lining around the bad stuff dark cloud.

A child dies of cancer. How does a parent heal from this tremendous loss? By believing their child’s dying happened for a reason? I don’t think so. Maybe a parent can heal by carrying on a joy of their child’s. Maybe their child loved to read. Maybe by volunteering to read to children at the library can help them heal emotionally.

You were in a crowd that was mowed down by a drunk driver. Will you be able to successfully move on with your life once your physical injuries are healed? Maybe. Will it help your emotional healing to believe it happened for a reason? I don’t think so. How does one heal emotionally from a senseless accident? How does one move beyond the accident after their injuries are healed? Maybe by getting involved with programs against drunk driving. Maybe by talking to teen-agers about driving and drinking. Maybe by helping other people injured by drunk drivers. Maybe these actions will help heal the emotional injury of being mowed down by a drunk driver.

I believe to heal emotionally, to successfully move beyond bad stuff that happens, we need to find value from the bad stuff. We may never be able to make sense of the bad stuff that happens. We have to find the silver lining.

EFT tapping can help heal the emotional injuries. EFT stands for Emotional Freedom Technique. When bad stuff happens, we will experience a range of emotions including grief, anger, self-pity, courage, and so many others. EFT tapping can help deal with the bad stuff and our emotions as a result of the bad stuff.
