It goes without saying that procrastination is about avoiding. What are we avoiding? What are we afraid to find out? What are we not wanting to do? What are we not willing to face? What is so fearful that we chose procrastination over accomplishment, stagnation over forward movement and progress?

Is it:

  • We don’t have the tools or skills to do something.
  • We don’t think we have the tools and skills to do something.
  • We are afraid of humiliation.
  • Rebellion.
  • The task is too boring.
  • Lack of motivation.
  • Not wanting to do something.
  • Punishing ourselves and/or someone else.
  • Fear of failure.
  • To sabotage ourselves and/or someone else.
  • Not caring if it gets done or not.
  • Poor time management.
  • Believing we do better under pressure and wait until the last minute.
  • Believing if we wait long enough, someone else will do it for us.
  • To fit in with the status quo.
  • To focus on something more enjoyable.
  • Not knowing what needs to be done.
  • Not in the mood.

The reasons we procrastinate could be one or more from this list or something entirely different.
